Accessibility, and what the law asks of a website

There are two accessibility regimes in Ireland and they bind different people.

Ireland has one web accessibility duty for the public sector, in place since 2020, and one for private businesses, in place since June 2025. They come from different EU Directives and different Irish regulations. Different bodies enforce them, and they do not ask for the same things.

The articles below keep them apart. They also set out exactly where the exemption for the smallest businesses (microenterprises) stops: it covers services, and it does not cover products.
